Type of Business

Correct Contract Services (CCS) is a specialist contractor in heating, retrofit, and renewable energy solutions, serving clients across all market sectors throughout England. Headquartered in Andover, Hampshire, the company primarily partners with local authorities and social housing providers. Over the past five years, Correct Contract Services (CCS) has expanded significantly by moving into retrofit work, upgrading existing social housing stock with modern, energy-efficient systems. This strategic focus has led to rapid growth, with the company now approximately ten times larger than it was four years ago. All services, including boiler installations, system maintenance, and comprehensive retrofit projects, are delivered exclusively within the social housing sector.

Challenge

Correct Contract Services (CCS) faced significant operational and analytical challenges as the company experienced rapid growth, expanding nearly tenfold over four years. Initially using Sage 50 for financial management, the system proved increasingly inadequate due to its limited capacity to handle high transaction volumes and growing business complexity. While Sage 50 served its basic purpose, it lacked robust financial planning and analysis (FP&A) capabilities and the flexibility needed for multi-dimensional reporting across various clients, contracts, and job types.

As CCS took on more customers and diversified its work streams, managing financial data, especially purchase orders, job-level billing, and contract valuations, became increasingly difficult. Sage 50, designed for simpler business structures, could not support CCS’s expanding needs, particularly in generating detailed insights into margins, material usage, and job performance.

After evaluating alternatives, CCS chose Sage Intacct for its advanced reporting capabilities, dimensional analysis, and ability to integrate with existing systems. Sage Intacct allows CCS to track profitability by client, contract, and job type, providing the detailed insights necessary for strategic decision-making. Although implementation was finalised in early 2025, CCS is already seeing potential in the system to transform raw data into actionable information, supporting better financial control and forward-looking analysis as the company continues to scale.

ROLE OF SAGE AND X3 CONSULTING

As Correct Contract Services (CCS) sought a more capable financial system to support its rapid growth and increased business complexity, they began exploring alternatives to Sage 50 in early 2023. During this process, CCS connected with X3 Consulting, who became their chosen implementation partner for Sage Intacct.

X3 Consulting was selected not only for their expertise but also for being a smaller, more agile consultancy—something CCS valued for a project that was limited in scope and not a full ERP rollout. This allowed for a more personalised service experience, with X3 demonstrating a deep understanding of CCS’s specific business needs.

A standout contributor from X3 was Vince, who played a critical role in translating CCS’s operational requirements into a practical system design. His ability to conceptually understand the business and adapt the solution, rather than pushing a standard approach, was key to building a system that was truly fit-for-purpose. His work ensured that CCS could structure Sage Intacct to handle complex workstreams, job-level billing, and detailed cost analysis.

Other team members, such as Steph, also contributed positively to the process, but Vince’s deep engagement made a lasting impact, especially given CCS’s limited internal familiarity with financial systems of this complexity.

Although CCS experienced delays due to difficulties in building a custom interface from their job management software (Protean) to Sage Intacct, facilitated by DataBlend, the implementation has now progressed to a stage where CCS is beginning to see the benefits. These include the ability to analyse cost of sales by workstream, something previously impossible, and a clearer roadmap toward advanced financial planning and analysis.

“One of the most immediate and valuable benefits of Sage Intacct has been the dashboards. For the first time, non-finance users across the business can access live financial data tailored to their needs—without having to rely on the finance team. Additionally, ongoing support from X3 Consulting, particularly from team members like Vince, has ensured that CCS continues to receive guidance on best practices, training, and optimisation as they deepen their use of the platform.”

Result

Since implementing Sage Intacct, Correct Contract Services (CCS) has achieved a range of immediate and long-term operational improvements. Initially, the company experienced several basic but critical wins, such as faster processing times and improved system stability. Tasks that previously caused delays or system crashes in Sage 50, such as running VAT returns, can now be completed quickly and reliably.

Data access and reporting have also significantly improved. Sage Intacct allows for quicker extraction of data and easier manipulation, reducing the manual effort previously required in Excel. More importantly, CCS can now conduct granular analysis of financial performance across workstreams using Sage Intacct’s multi-dimensional reporting capabilities. This shift from flat data to structured, “cubed” data enables more insightful, strategic decision-making.

The introduction of dashboards has further empowered users across the business. Even non-finance employees now have access to real-time revenue and performance data by workstream, information that was previously only accessible through finance teams. This has improved both transparency and efficiency, allowing staff to independently access the information they need.

In terms of system reliability and usability, Sage Intacct has proven to be highly available, fast, and easy to use, eliminating many frustrations experienced with Sage 50. CCS now benefits from a system that is not only stable but also scalable as the business continues to grow.

Additionally, ongoing support from X3 Consulting, particularly from team members like Steph, has ensured that CCS continues to receive guidance on best practices, training, and optimisation as they deepen their use of the platform.

Overall, Sage Intacct has laid a strong foundation for CCS to evolve from being data-rich but insight-poor, to a business with real-time, actionable information that supports smarter, faster decision-making.
